In Gerard's "window effect " style, this painting depicts a window view out to the sea from an old home along the Mediterranean coast of France.
The window, custom built by Gerard, is typically blue for the region, creating a wonderful contrast with the white washed walls of the house. An air of mystery is created by the red door seen at the far end of a courtyard, so typical of coastal homes in this region. The age of the home is expressed through an old vine on the far wall and the worn state of the courtyard pavers. One can feel the history of the home and its eternal partner, the sea.
